The body of relevant literature in the digital information age is growing rapidly. Detecting the signs of potential valuable ideas has theoretical and practical benefits which can help one understand when, how and why a research issue has potential value in the scientific domain. The perceived value of this paper is to show the contribution of a scientometric analysis for an up-to date understanding of the scientific field’s intellectual structure and identify exactly how a current issue connects with previously disparate patches of knowledge, creating a network of ideas cognitively demanding. Applying a multiple temporal, structural and semantic metrics, scientometric analysis allows the visualization of patterns from both citing and cited items. The temporal interval is sliced into equal mutually exclusive time periods, and an individual citation network is derived from each slice. Networks of keywords, authors, categories, sources of publication are included for a better understanding of the subject of the scientific domain. This analysis allows the identification of trends and areas of research conducted so far, and an appreciation of the most relevant authors, papers, sources of publication, showing where most of the studies have been performed. This is pertinent if the trust of future research is to incorporate more innovative approaches. By building on prior research this creates a strong theoretical background, which is an issue in various areas of research, namely, tourism and marketing. Executives who continue to attempt to navigate with out-of-date strategies will be ill-prepared to avail themselves of the immense opportunities. Scientometrics provides a reflexive marking of research into any knowledge domain.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Research into cognitive reserve (CR) and dementia is advancing rapidly. This paper analyses the intellectual structure, emerging trends and relevant shifts in the development of available knowledge. Data collected from the Web-of-Science produced an expanded network of 564 articles and 12,504 citations in the 1998-2017 period. The co-citation network visualized was characterized by a scientometric review using CiteSpace. The results revealed that author Stern Y had the highest number of publications and citations. The network of journals, institutions and countries showed a central-peripheral structure with Neurology, Harvard University and the USA ranked first, respectively. While cognitive reserve remains the most prominent area of research in this field, studies related to functional ability, executive control, mortality data and reserve mechanisms have grown considerably. The identification of critical articles and the development of emerging trends highlights new insights in the area of research, better communicating key findings and facilitating the exploration of data.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
A limit number of studies have applied bibliometric visualisation to explore the network structure of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). This paper uses CiteSpace, Carrot and VOSviewer to analyse and visualise the intellectual structure of AD, characterizing, quantitatively and qualitatively, the global scientific outputs, and identifying their trends. The 9,753 articles obtained from the science citation index expanded database (SCI-E), from Web-of-Science, were analysed. The publication data is analysed computationally to identify publication patterns, a rate of growth of publications, types of authorship collaboration, the most productive authors, countries, institutions, journals, keywords, the citation and keyword patterns, the hotspots and the areas of research on the AD. The paper presents a detailed analytical mapping of AD research and charts the progress of discipline with various useful parameters. The authors expect to contribute to the theory, supplying researchers with new tools and enabling practitioners to improve their knowledge about the AD evolution and trends.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Vacation motivation of senior tourists

A high income per inhabitant and the increase in lifespan of populations in developed countries are generally admitted to be the main pillars of senior tourism. Admitting that the increase in lifespan is partly conditioned by social and environmental factors that are beneficial to human longevity, than if tourism is one such factor, it will contribute to a virtuous cycle of interaction between the self maintenance of this longevity and the development of senior tourism. Three clusters can be identified: convivialists, spiritualists and innovators, which differ significantly in social demography, holiday habits and in their reasons to come to Lisbon

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a clinical syndrome caused by neurodegeneration and characterized by a progressive deterioration in cognitive ability and capacity for independent living. Cognitive reserve (CR) describes the capacity of the adult brain to cope with the effects of the neurodegenerative process and to minimize the clinical manifestation of pathology of dementia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of CR and the severity of AD. Method: This study was cross-sectional. Functional and neuropsychological abilities of 75 outpatients with probable AD diagnosis were evaluated. Patients completed two questionnaires, "Participation in leisure activities throughout life" and CR Questionnaire. Result: The relationship between Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) and the level of CR was statistically significant (likelihood ratio (LR), p = 0.015). Conclusion: The level of CR influenced the severity of dementia. This study suggests that AD patients with higher CR may benefit against cognitive decline after diagnosis of AD.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

SCIELO:S2237-60892014000300160 (Nº de Acesso Web of Science)Introduction: Cognitive reserve (CR), a hypothetical construct used to obtain information about cognitive aging, describes the capacity of the adult brain to cope with the effects of neurodegenerative processes. This study evaluated CR using a CR questionnaire (CRQ) and a set of variables (education, leisure activities, lifelong occupation) that inform CR. It also developed a CR index, validated the CRQ, and examined the correlation between the different CR measures. Methods: Functional and neuropsychological capacities of 75 outpatients (mean age: 80.2 years) with a probable AD diagnosis were evaluated. Socio-demographic data and clinical variables were collected. Patients completed two questionnaires: the Participation in Leisure Activities throughout Life questionnaire, and the CRQ. Results: Participants with a greater CR had higher scores in cognitive tests than the elderly with a lower CR. A CR index was developed. CRQ reliability was 0.795 (Cronbach’s alpha). There was a close association between the CR Index and the CRQ. Conclusions: This study found an association between CR measures and education, occupation and participation in leisure activities. The CRQ seems to be a suitable instrument to measure CR in Portuguese populations.

This study is focused on the validation of a leadership test, based on a complex model of leadership skills, as a tool for assessing teacher’s educational competence, viewed as important in conduting adolescent and adult learning classes. Its specific purpose is to establish the norms and interpretation criteria for the test, in educational contexts. The model highlights the skills for leadership effectiveness, in a definite cultural setting, the Academy of East Timor National Police, viewing leadership as an essential way of steering human systems. The postulates of the model hypothesize the positivity of leadership as a result from an appropriate combination of power and information, while executing the fundamental activities of dinamizing and controlling the performance and results of the learning ativities. The test was applied to a sample of trainees in an educational military context, the Academy of East Timor National Police. The results of their evaluations on each competence for leadership effectiveness were valid and reliable. Nevertheless, the authors plan to test this tool in other specific contexts, in order to complete the evaluation of the leadership complex set of competences required by educational contexts.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
Purpose—To analyses the effect of emotions obtained by oral reproduction of advertising slogans established via Voice Emotion Response software on brand recall by gender; and to show the relevance for marketing communication of combining “human–computer Interaction (HCI)” with “affective computing (AC)” as part of their mission. Design/methodology/approach—A qualitative data analysis did the review of the scientific literature retrieved from Web-of-Science Core Collection (WoSCC), using CiteSpace’ scientometric technique; the quantitative data analysis did the analysis of brand recall over a sample of Taiwan’ participants by “optimal data analysis”. Findings—Advertising effectiveness has a positive association with emotions; brand recall varies with gender; and “HCI” connected with “AC” is an emerging area of research. Research limitations/implications—The selection of articles obtained depend on the terms used in WoSCC, and this study used only five emotions. Still the richness of the data gives some compensation. Practical implications—Marketers involved with brands need a body of knowledge on which to base their marketing communication intelligence gathering and strategic planning. Originality/value—It provides exploratory research findings related to the use of automatic tools capable of mining emotions by gender in real time, which could enhance the feedback of customers toward their brands.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
